What is the scheme?
Many Victorians are out of work due to the economic impacts of COVID-19.
At the same time, a lot of businesses and services are needing help.
The Victorian Government’s $500 million Working For Victoria scheme will match people who need work with with jobs that need doing, and help upskill workers for new opportunities.
What role does VCOSS play?
VCOSS and the Victorian Trades Hall Council have been engaged to help design the scheme to help businesses keep operating, the economy running and connect as many Victorians as possible to work opportunities.
Community services has been identified as a ‘priority industry’ for this scheme, because of the anticipated increase in demand and workload during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The areas it’s anticipated community organisations will be need to take on additional workers relate:
- Food services and catering for vulnerable
- Health care support
- Carer/community support roles
- Outreach for people who are isolated (or who need supplies delivered).
